Mural Installation in Winter Park, FL

The short answer

We install scenic, photographic and custom murals in Winter Park homes, including murals fitted between chair rails and crown molding. Careful measuring and layout keep the image centered on imperfect older walls.

In a Winter Park dining room with a chair rail, a scenic landscape mural running above the wainscoting can make the space feel like it has been that way for a century. In a bungalow bedroom, a soft cloud mural can lift a low ceiling. Murals reward rooms with character, and this city has plenty of them. They also bring challenges that standard wallpaper does not: fixed image sizes, precise sequencing, and walls that are often a little out of true in older houses. Our crew comes up about 10 miles from Orlando to hang murals in homes across ZIP 32789 and nearby neighborhoods.

Scenic murals in traditional rooms

Panoramic scenes, garden designs and hand-painted-style landscapes have a long history in dining rooms and entry halls. They suit the trim details found in many established Winter Park homes, and they can be ordered to fit a specific wall height rather than full floor to ceiling. Modern options, like abstract washes or large botanical photographs, look striking in renovated homes with cleaner lines.

Whatever the style, a mural is a single image. Unlike a repeating paper, there is no flexibility to slide the pattern along the wall once it is printed. That is why planning comes first.

Fitting a mural between trim

If your room has a chair rail, picture rail or crown molding, the mural may only cover part of the wall height. We measure from the top of the chair rail to the underside of the crown at several points, because older homes often have floors and ceilings that drift by a fraction of an inch across a room. Those small differences decide how much extra image the printer needs to include.

We also look at what the eye will see first. On a dining room wall, the horizon line of a landscape usually looks best a bit above seated eye level. On a wall with a fireplace or a window, we mark where the main feature of the image will fall so it is not hidden behind a mirror or a curtain.

Before you order

Most mural sellers ask for wall dimensions at checkout. Getting these numbers right is the single most useful thing you can do. We provide them in writing after measuring, along with a few other notes:

  • Final print width and height, including trim allowance
  • Which edge of the image can be sacrificed if the wall is out of square
  • Locations of switches, outlets, vents and thermostats in the image area
  • Recommended material based on the room, such as washable vinyl for a playroom
  • Whether the design should start from a corner or be centered on a feature

Getting an older wall mural-ready

Photographic images are unforgiving. A ridge of old paint, a filled crack or a patch with a different texture can show through as a shadow. On older plaster and block walls we scrape loose material, fill cracks, sand smooth and, where the surface is very uneven, apply a skim coat. A wallcovering primer seals it all so the mural adheres evenly and can be removed later without damaging the wall.

Humidity plays a role in how panels behave. During the hot, humid summer, with daily afternoon storms, we want the house closed and the air conditioning running steadily for a day before installation. Paper-based murals expand slightly when pasted, and stable indoor conditions keep every panel stretching the same amount.

On the day

We open the package, lay the panels out in order and check them against the supplier's diagram for printing errors. The first panel goes up against a plumb line, not the room's corner. Each panel after that is matched to the image on its neighbor and smoothed from the center out to push out air.

Trimming happens last, along the crown, rail or baseboard, with a fresh blade so the edge stays clean. A single mural wall is usually finished in one visit. We also install murals in Maitland, Eatonville, Edgewood, Belle Isle and Sky Lake.

What to expect

How a visit goes

  1. Honest prep advice

If your wall has glossy paint, torn drywall facing or a lingering moisture problem, we say so before work starts and suggest the fix that makes sense for that surface.

  2. Patterns that line up

We plot where the repeat falls at eye level and in corners, so the match holds across the whole room instead of drifting by the last strip.

  3. A tidy work area

Drop cloths go down first, scraps leave with us, and paste residue is sponged off trim and ceilings before we call the job done.

FAQ

Common questions

Don’t see your question? Call (561) 944-3314 and we’ll talk it through.

Can a mural be installed above a chair rail only?

Yes. Many scenic murals can be ordered at a custom height to fit between a chair rail and the ceiling or crown molding.

My walls are not square. Will the mural look crooked?

We hang from a true vertical line and use the trim allowance to absorb out-of-square corners, so the image looks straight.

Can you install a mural on plaster walls?

Yes, once the plaster is sound, repaired where needed and primed.

Are there murals for bathrooms?

Vinyl murals tolerate moisture in powder rooms and baths with good ventilation. Paper murals are better in dry rooms.

Can I order a mural for an odd-shaped wall?

Usually yes. Order to the largest rectangle that covers the wall, and we trim the panels to its real shape.

What if the mural arrives with a damaged panel?

We check every panel before hanging and will pause so you can request a replacement from the seller.
