Sky Lake Mural Installation

The short answer

We install wallpaper murals in Sky Lake homes and can measure in person before you order, since we are based right next door. We smooth and prime older walls, plan where the image lands, and align every panel so the picture reads as one piece.

A mural can transform a plain wall in a Sky Lake home into the most memorable part of the house. Think of a hand-drawn palm canopy in a sunroom, a misty landscape behind a bed, or a storybook scene for a child's room. Murals come printed across numbered panels that must align perfectly to form one picture. Since this Orange County community sits right beside our Orlando base, it is simple for us to measure in person before you place an order, which is the single best way to avoid sizing mistakes. Here is how we take a mural from idea to finished wall.

Start with an in-person measurement

Many walls in older block homes are not perfectly square. Ceilings can dip slightly, corners lean, and baseboards vary in height from one end of the room to the other. Measuring once across the middle can leave you with a mural that is an inch or two short at one edge.

We measure width at the top, center and bottom, and height at each end and in the middle, then give you final dimensions that include the bleed the manufacturer recommends. Murals are often made to order, so getting this right before printing saves you time and frustration.

We also note anything that interrupts the wall: a thermostat, a light switch near the door, a window with a deep sill, or a vent close to the ceiling. Marking those on a simple sketch lets you see how the image will be cut before you commit. On walls with a large window, some homeowners choose to flip or shift the mural so the main subject sits on the widest uninterrupted section.

Rooms where murals shine in Sky Lake

Several spaces in local homes lend themselves to a large image:

  • Florida rooms and sunrooms, where tropical or garden scenes extend the view toward the yard
  • Children's bedrooms and nurseries with gentle landscapes or playful illustrations
  • Dining areas, where a scenic or chinoiserie panel becomes a conversation piece
  • Home offices that need a calm, interesting background for video calls
  • The end wall of a long hallway, which gains depth from a vista or path image

Smoothing walls that have lived a long life

Mural images often include wide areas of soft color, which reveal every bump below them. Plaster walls with hairline cracks, old anchor holes, or a heavy textured finish all need work before a mural goes up. We patch, skim and sand until the surface is even, then apply a wallpaper primer.

If the wall is painted a dark color and the mural is pale, we use a tinted primer so the old color does not shadow through thin areas of the print.

Prep is usually the longest part of a mural job in an older home. A skim coat needs to dry fully before sanding, and primer needs its own drying time after that. Living close by means we can do the smoothing on one visit and return for the hanging once everything has cured, instead of rushing the steps into a single long day.

Placing the image just right

Before hanging, we lay all panels out in sequence and check for print flaws or missing pieces. Then we decide exactly where the first panel goes. The goal is to put the important parts of the picture, such as a horizon, a focal tree, or a central figure, where they will be seen, not hidden behind a headboard or cut by a door frame.

We hang from a laser line rather than relying on corners, match each panel across the image, and trim the excess at the ceiling, floor and around openings. Outlet and switch plates go back on at the end.

Sunlight and Florida weather

Sunrooms and west-facing rooms receive strong light, which can fade certain inks over the years. UV-filtering window film or shades help protect the print. During the hot, humid months from June through September, when storms roll in almost every afternoon, keep the air conditioning running so paste cures evenly.

Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30. If a storm threatens to cut power, we will reschedule. Being local, we can usually find a new date quickly.

What to expect

How a visit goes

  1. Honest prep advice

If your wall has glossy paint, torn drywall facing or a lingering moisture problem, we say so before work starts and suggest the fix that makes sense for that surface.

  2. Patterns that line up

We plot where the repeat falls at eye level and in corners, so the match holds across the whole room instead of drifting by the last strip.

  3. A tidy work area

Drop cloths go down first, scraps leave with us, and paste residue is sponged off trim and ceilings before we call the job done.

FAQ

Common questions

Don’t see your question? Call (561) 944-3314 and we’ll talk it through.

Can you measure my wall before I order a mural?

Yes, and we recommend it. Sky Lake is right next to our base, so an in-person measurement is easy to arrange.

Can a mural go in a Florida room or sunroom?

Yes, if the room is air-conditioned. Unconditioned porches and rooms that get very humid are a poor fit for paper murals.

What if my mural arrives with a printing error?

We inspect every panel before hanging. If one is flawed, we stop and help you contact the seller before anything goes on the wall.

Can murals be removed later?

Most non-woven murals hung over primer come off in full panels with little effort, which makes them good for changing tastes.

Will the mural seams be noticeable?

When panels are matched and butted carefully on a smooth wall, seams are very hard to spot at normal viewing distance.
