Wallpaper Stripping in Lake Buena Vista, FL

The short answer

We remove wallpaper, borders and leftover adhesive from Lake Buena Vista homes and rentals, then repair and prime the walls for paint or new paper. Work can be scheduled through property managers and timed around guest stays.

When a Lake Buena Vista property changes hands or gets a refresh, the old wallpaper is often the first thing to go. Tropical prints, heavy borders and faded themed papers can date a home quickly, and rental owners know that tired walls show up in guest photos and reviews. Stripping that material without damaging the drywall takes patience and the right method. We come from Orlando, about ten miles to the northeast, to remove wallpaper from homes and vacation properties throughout this part of Orange County, and we leave each wall clean, repaired and primed for whatever comes next.

What usually comes off the walls here

Many homes in this area were finished with vinyl wallpaper and decorative borders when they were built or first furnished as rentals. Vinyl usually peels away at the surface layer, but the paper backing beneath it stays bonded to the wall and needs to be soaked off. Borders are often applied with stronger adhesive and may have been installed over another paper.

Rental properties also tend to have peel-and-stick products and themed murals. In the heat of a Central Florida summer, the adhesives on these products can soften, spread and then harden, making them harder to remove than their name suggests.

  • Builder-era vinyl with stubborn backing
  • Borders over paint or over other paper
  • Peel-and-stick that has bonded in the heat
  • Murals and themed papers in kids' rooms
  • Paper that has been painted over

How we remove it

We start with a small test area to determine what type of paper is on the wall and how it was hung. Strippable papers can be pulled off dry. Peelable vinyls lose their face first; the remaining backing is soaked with a warm solution and scraped once softened. Painted or traditional papers are scored lightly to let moisture in, then soaked and removed in manageable sections.

Floors are covered with absorbent cloths and plastic, and power to nearby outlets is switched off before wet work begins. Outlet boxes and switch openings are taped to keep water out. Debris is bagged as we go so the room stays orderly.

Adhesive cleanup and drying

Old wallpaper paste left on a wall can ruin a new finish. Paint applied over it may crack or peel, and new wallpaper may fail to bond. We wash walls with a dedicated adhesive remover, rinse with clean water and check by touch for remaining residue.

Drying is important in humid Central Florida. Between June and September, when afternoon storms are common and humidity stays high, damp walls dry slowly. We use the home's air conditioning and fans to help, and we confirm the wall is dry before priming.

Repair and priming

Removal can reveal damage that the paper was hiding, such as torn drywall face paper, old anchor holes, cracked seams or patches that were never sanded smooth. Torn paper is sealed with a solvent-based or shellac primer before any patching, because water-based compound will cause raw drywall paper to bubble.

After patching and sanding, the entire wall is primed so it is uniform and ready for paint or a new wallcovering. If you plan to install new wallpaper, we prepare the surface to the standard needed for hanging and can schedule installation as soon as the primer has cured.

Working around guests and remote owners

For vacation properties, we coordinate with property managers to complete removal between bookings. Owners who live elsewhere receive photos of the walls before and after removal, along with notes on any repairs made. That way the property is ready for its next guests or its next update without the owner needing to be on site.

Before the crew arrives, it helps if housekeeping clears shelves, takes down wall art and removes linens from beds in the rooms being stripped. Heavy furniture can stay in place if there is room to slide it toward the center, where we cover it with plastic sheeting. When we finish, stripped paper and drop cloths leave with us, and the floors are vacuumed so the cleaning team can reset the room without extra work.

What to expect

How a visit goes

  1. Honest prep advice

If your wall has glossy paint, torn drywall facing or a lingering moisture problem, we say so before work starts and suggest the fix that makes sense for that surface.

  2. Patterns that line up

We plot where the repeat falls at eye level and in corners, so the match holds across the whole room instead of drifting by the last strip.

  3. A tidy work area

Drop cloths go down first, scraps leave with us, and paste residue is sponged off trim and ceilings before we call the job done.

FAQ

Common questions

Don’t see your question? Call (561) 944-3314 and we’ll talk it through.

How long does wallpaper removal take?

It depends on the type of paper and how many layers there are. A small bathroom may take a few hours; larger rooms can take a day or more.

Can you remove wallpaper while my rental is between guests?

Yes. We schedule removal around your booking calendar and coordinate access with your property manager.

Will removing wallpaper damage my walls?

Some minor damage is common, especially with older papers on unprimed drywall. We repair and prime any affected areas.

Is peel-and-stick wallpaper easy to remove?

Not always. Heat can make its adhesive bond more strongly, so it may need the same careful approach as traditional paper.

Do you serve areas around Lake Buena Vista?

Yes, we also work in Bay Lake, Kissimmee, Windermere, Sky Lake and Edgewood.
